Playing with Polygons

A Mosaic of the Works of Antoni Gaudí

To improve my design and data visualization skills, I've been reading blogs and exploring data vizzes by other authors. I was captivated by the works of @ShijiaWendy and @rajvivan , particulary by their use of polygons to create some of their data arts and data portraits.

A big fan of M.C. Escher's designs, I was particularly intrigued by how Wendy created a tableau of Escher's work using polygons in Tableau. Inspired, I wanted create a piece to showcase the mosaic of work by one of my favourite architects & structural engineers that I discovered when I was traveling in Barcelona: Antoni Gaudí.

What is this project about:

Antoni Gaudi is a pioneering figure of Art Nouveau and Catalan Modernism. He is best known for his intricate structures, skeleton balconies, and whimsical vision. He infused his design with inspirations from nature's organic forms and the brilliance and richness of its colours.

Here is the Viz:

What I learned

• How to create coordinates to design polygons in Tableau

• How to use clipping masks and image trace functionalities in Adobe Illustrator to create vector graphics

• How to display images in Tooltips
